Transference

This November our window is showing a selection of exhibtion works by one of Small Space's featured jewellers, Susan Ewington.

The Transference collection is based on creating response pieces to antique photographs collected by Susan, images which contain an unspoken element, all which is unobvious in the image, "that which pierces the viewer".

The jewellery and print collection uses techniques such as silverpoint drawing (a Renaissance drawing method using pure silver rods), fused glass onto metal, and cyanotype and argyrotype photographic printing.

"It is this element which rises from the scene, shoots out of it like an arrow and pierces me. It is what I add to the photograph and what is nonetheless already there. It is acute yet muffled, it cries out in silence. Odd contradictions: a floating flash."

- Roland Barthes, Camera Lucida, 1982.
